PLOrk 2026 : Homecoming with Sideband
PLOrk + Sideband: Homecoming
- Sonic Lanterns
- by Konrad Kaczmarek
- performed by PLOrk & Sideband
- The piece features a phone-based instrument that uses the IMU and compass sensors as well as network communication to coordinate musical material as the performers move about the audience. Seated around the perimeter of the audience, Harpists and Bassists perform arpeggio patterns and bass lines that are coordinated with the Lanternists through the network.
- Artiforg
- by Dan Iglesia
- performed by PLOrk
- Artiforg is a continuation of my work with mobile devices, networked parameters, and live 3D video. Previous instances had free improvisation on tablets over network control; this work, however, has a strict form, tether-only control, and real performative cues.
- GhostLine
- by Jeff Snyder
- performed by Sideband
- Ghost Line came out of two ideas. The first idea was to create a work where any motion a performer made, even minor motions like blinking an eye, would create a sonic result. The second idea was to try to do a very literal translation between image and sound – scanning through an array of image pixels and treating the brightness values as points to build an audio waveform. My experiments with putting these concepts into practice led down a very curvy path, but eventually to the piece you’ll hear tonight.
